Jimmy Garoppolo’s fate as quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers remains a hot topic in the Bay Area.

But according to teammate Kyle Juszczyk, the 29-year-old Garoppolo isn’t listening.

“I think it would be naive to say that he doesn’t hear any of it, but the guy really doesn’t hear a lot of it,” the 49ers’ fullback told Pat McAfee during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “He’s not superactive on social media. I mean, you’ll see the guy post like once a month on his Instagram, and it’s usually some sort of ad for some high-end car dealership or something. I don’t think he has a Twitter account, and if he does, he’s not very active on it.”

Garoppolo’s name is back in the news this week amid reports the 49ers reached out to the Carolina Panthers to gauge the team’s interest in trading current starter Teddy Bridgewater. The Panthers signed Bridgewater last March, but have been active in talks to upgrade at QB, according to multiple reports.

The Panthers were in the bidding for Matthew Stafford of the Lions and are prepared to offer a king’s ransom to the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson.

Garoppolo was acquired by the 49ers in a trade with the New England Patriots to become the franchise quarterback.

He led the team to a 13-3 record, NFC Championship and Super Bowl appearance in 2019. Injuries have been the story in almost every other season.

The 49ers have a 24-9 record in games Garoppolo has played since the trade with the Patriots, but he’s missed 23 games. He signed a five-year, $137.5 million contract with the 49ers on Feb. 8, 2019. His cap hit this season is $26.4 million.

General manager John Lynch said the 49ers are looking for help at quarterback, but implied they are in the backup QB market.

“When he’s healthy, he’s played at a high level,” Lynch said. “But we probably have to add someone. We probably need to improve ourselves, so if he’s not there, we’re all right; we can win games.

“We are seriously looking forward to kind of rebooting our team and making a run at this thing next year. And I believe we’ve got what it takes to compete for a championship.”
