Saints rookie Marcus Davenport to miss a month with toe injury

The New Orleans Saints head into Week 9’s game against the undefeated Los Angeles Rams in the midst of a six-game winning streak. Sunday’s matchup could very well determine who has home-field advantage in the NFC Playoffs.

Unfortunately, the Saints will be without rookie first-round pick Marcus Davenport after he suffered a toe injury in last week’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is noting that Davenport could miss a month of action.

New Orleans has a lot of eggs in this one basket. It moved up in the first round of April’s draft to select Davenport, yielding a first-round pick in 2019 to the Green Bay Packers in the process.

After strugging with consistency earlier in the season, Davenport has come on strong recently. He racked up two sacks against the Vikings last week and has four sacks over the past five games.

Facing an offensive juggernaut in that of Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and the Rams on Sunday, this is certainly bad timing.
