New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton missed practice Wednesday due to illness.

General manager Mickey Loomis said Payton tested negative for COVID-19 and worked from home.

The club didn’t say when the 57-year-old Payton is expected to return to the club facility. It also is unclear if Payton is in any danger of missing Sunday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Like anything else, the show must go on,” Saints quarterback Taysom Hill told reporters after practice. “I certainly missed having him around today, but we’re not going to lose a day of prep for a big game. I thought we had a good day of practice.”

New Orleans running back Mark Ingram II and defensive end Cameron Jordan are on the COVID-19 list and missed last Sunday’s 30-9 road win over the New York Jets. Receiver Ty Montgomery also missed the game with New York and was removed from the list on Wednesday.

Payton had a bout with the coronavirus in the March of 2020.
