Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart named top WNBA players this week

Following the first full week of the WNBA’s 2021 season, Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty and Breanna Stewart of the Seattle Storm have been named WNBA Players of the Week.

Sabrina Ionescu had a historic week that saw her average 18.4 points, 8.8 assists, 6.4 rebounds in five games with the Liberty finishing with a 4-1 record.

In the third game of the season, and the sixth in her career, Ionescu recorded the ninth regular-season triple-double in WNBA history (10th overall) against the Minnesota Lynx.

Top WNBA players this week

This is the second season in a row that Breanna Stewart was named Player of the Week in the WNBA’s first week. In four games, Stewart led the Storm to a 3-1 record while averaging 25.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.

Stewart scored 25-plus point double-doubles in three of her four games including her 10th career 30-point game in her last outing against the Dallas Wings.
