The Kansas City Royals acquired right-hander Albert Abreu from the Texas Rangers in exchange for minor league right-hander Yohanse Morel on Thursday night.

Abreu, who was designated for assignment on Monday, had a 3.12 ERA in seven relief outings for Texas this season. He was on the injured list from April 30-May 23 due to a sprained left ankle, and he made three scoreless appearances on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock.

Abreu, 26, was part of a three-player trade on April 2 that brought him to Texas from the New York Yankees.

Morel, 21, was 2-2 with a 4.08 ERA in 10 relief appearances for Class-A Quad Cities this season. He averaged 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Texas assigned Morel to Class-A Hickory.
