Rookie Davis Mills to start for Houston Texans vs. Arizona Cardinals

Davis Mills will start at quarterback Sunday when the Houston Texans visit the undefeated Arizona Cardinals, coach David Culley said Wednesday.

Culley said the Texans hope starter Tyrod Taylor, who is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, could see some practice time this week. That gives him a chance to start against the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 31.

Taylor will be the starter when he is healthy, Culley reiterated. He has been out since injuring the hamstring in Week 2.

Taylor has started 49 games in his career, and he made the Pro Bowl with the Buffalo Bills in 2015. He has completed 61.7 percent of his passes and thrown for 10,186 yards with 57 touchdowns against 20 interceptions for his career. He’s 25-22-1 as a starter.

Mills, a third-round draft pick from Stanford, is 0-4 as a starter in relief of Taylor. He has completed 63.3 percent of his passes (88 of 139) for 912 yards, throwing five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Texans are 1-5 on the season.
