Ron Rivera donates $50,000 to Puerto Rican relief efforts

Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that he is donating $50,000 to the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

Rivera explained his decision to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charlotte Observer.

“As I said, whatever we can do to help out, I think it would be greatly appreciated,” Rivera said. “(They need) food, water and electricity right now. Those that don’t have generators are really struggling up there. Getting fresh water and food obviously is the other concern, and then fuel for the generators and stuff like that.”

Rodrigue also noted that “Rivera said his family in Puerto Rico has all been accounted for.”

Rivera is one of many in the sports world to contribute to the relief effort, joining the likes of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Carmelo Anthony.
