Roger Craig is one of two men in the history of the NFL to total 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season, and he’s convinced Christian McCaffrey will become the third.
Craig accomplished the rare feat in 1995 as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Marshall Faulk is the only other player to do it, and he accomplished it in 1999 as a member of the St. Louis Rams.
Speaking about McCaffrey, Craig gushed about his skill set.
“He will definitely get the 1,000-1,000,” Craig told ESPN’s David Newton and Mike Triplett. “It’s in his DNA to make that happen. He’s got the tools. He’s built for it. His day will come.”
In his first two seasons as a pro, McCaffrey has certainly displayed rare abilities as a dual-threat back. And he’s already come close to joining this exclusive club.
He broke the all-time NFL record for most receptions by a running back in a single season during the 2018 campaign (107 catches), finishing with 1,098 rushing yards and 867 receiving yards.
The NFL has come a long way and evolved quite a bit since Craig and Faulk pulled off their 1,000-1,000 seasons. Yet if anyone has the game to make it happen once more, McCaffrey appears to be it.
Though, he’s not the only prominent back who is gunning for the achievement.
