Injury-plagued Colorado Rockies right-hander Scott Oberg announced his retirement on social media Tuesday, while also revealing a move into a part-time role as a special assistant in the club’s baseball operations department.

Oberg had a 3.85 ERA over five seasons (259 appearances) as a reliever for the Rockies but had not pitched since 2019 because of serious ailments that included blood clots and surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.

The Rockies declined Oberg’s contract option for 2023. The 32-year-old former 15th-round draft pick finished his career with an 18-8 record and 234 strikeouts over 257 1/3 innings.
