Richard Sherman recently got great news when he was cleared for practice, earning a $2 million roster bonus as a cherry on top reward. Unfortunately, the star cornerback suffered a hamstring injury on Friday.
Due to that injury, Sherman will now miss at least a week healing up before he’s evaluated, the team announced Sunday.

It’s good that the 49ers are playing it safe here. Hamstring injuries are notorious for becoming a recurring issue. So, it’s far better to let the sucker heal completely before getting back onto the field.
That said, the more time Sherman has to miss, the harder it’ll be for him to be an effective starter in San Francisco’s offense. While it’s true Robert Saleh’s defense is a scheme familiar to him, half of what makes a great defense is how the players interact together.
So if Sherman is going to have an instant impact for the 49ers this year, he needs to get back onto the field as soon as he can to continue gaining rapport with his new teammates, many of whom are very green.
