With less than two weeks before the start of the 2022 season, the New England Revolution promoted Ryan Spaulding from Revolution II by signing the defender to a one-year deal with club options for 2023 and 2024.

Spaulding, 23, played in 42 games (38 starts) with the Revolution’s development side the past two seasons in USL League One. He participated in two exhibition games with the club’s main team before earning his contract.

He is just the fifth player the Revolution have promoted from their development team. Revolution II is moving to the new MLS Next Pro league this season.

“Ryan was one of the first players we signed to Revolution II, and we have seen incredible growth in many facets of his game throughout the past two seasons,” Revolution technical director Curt Onalfo said. “He is a talented outside back who fits in well with our team and can add production in all phases of the game.”

A Cary, N.C., native, Spaulding played at UNC-Charlotte for two seasons before leaving for a professional opportunity in the French third division. He returned in 2019 with North Carolina FC before he came under the Revolution umbrella in 2020.
