New England Revolution star keeper Matt Turner, the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, will move to Arsenal in the summertime transfer window.
Turner, 27, will begin the 2022 MLS season with New England, including the Revs’ participation in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Reports from ESPN and MLSSoccer.com said the transfer fee is $6 million up front with the potential to grow to $10 million with incentives. New England will earn a 10 percent sell-on fee if the London-based Premier League club moves Turner in the future.
Turner, also one of the top keepers for the U.S. men’s national team, played Thursday night in a World Cup qualifier against El Salvador. He did not face a shot on goal in the Americans’ 1-0 win.
He made 28 starts for the Revolution in their record-breaking 2021 season, in which they set a new single-season mark of 73 standings points to earn the Supporters’ Shield. Turner had five shutouts, made 101 saves and allowed just 35 goals en route to a 17-4-7 personal record.
Turner won the Revs’ starting job in 2018 and he has made 97 starts in goal for them since, with 21 career shutouts. He won team MVP in 2020.
