Two days after quarterback PJ Walker was waived by the Cleveland Browns, multiple reports indicated Monday he cleared waivers and will re-sign with the team’s practice squad.
Walker was 1-1 as a starter for the Browns this season, but essentially won a second game when he replaced an injured Deshaun Watson in the first quarter of a 39-38 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7.
In five total games of action this season, Walker completed 48.6 percent of his passes for 674 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions. His first start of 2023 came in a 19-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 15 when he threw for 192 yards with two interceptions and no TDs.
A member of the Carolina Panthers for each of the previous three seasons, Walker has appeared in 21 career games (nine starts) and has completed 54.6 percent of his passes for 2,135 yards, six touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
The Browns have turned to veteran Joe Flacco as their starter for the remainder of the season after he guided a 31-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson is Flacco’s backup, with Watson (shoulder) on injured reserve.
