Reports: Heat to waive Chris Bosh, whose career appears to be over

Chris Bosh

Two-time NBA champion and 11-time All-Star Chris Bosh hasn’t played in more than a year. Now, an NBA doctor has ruled that his medical issues are, in fact, career ending.

A return to the NBA is possible for the 33-year-old. But it would be a long, complicated process.

According to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, the Miami Heat will waive Bosh. While he will continue to get paid, he will not count against the team’s salary cap.

Bosh was drafted by the Toronto Raptors fourth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. He remained with the Raptors through the 2009-10 season. After that, he joined forces with fellow 2003 draftees Dwyane Wade and eventually, LeBron James to form the “Big 3” of the Heat.

With the Heat, Bosh was an integral part of the teams that won four straight Eastern Conference Championships (2011-2014), taking the NBA Championship in 2012 and 2013.

Bosh was the last member of the “Big 3” to leave Miami, though he never actually played after Wade’s departure and only sparingly after LeBron’s. His 2014-15 season was ended prematurely due to blood clots. Bosh returned to the floor the next year, but had that season cut short, as well.
