Report: Vincent Jackson to Remain in Tampa Bay Under Current Contract

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers want to keep veteran wide receiver Vincent Jackson with the team in 2015. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Jackson will play in 2015 at his current salary of $9.78 million.

This report confirms an earlier statement from general manager Jason Licht, who said the 32-year-old receiver would “absolutely” return for his fourth year in Tampa Bay.

Living up to his end of the deal with the Buccaneers, Jackson has produced three 1,000-plus yard seasons during his three years with the team. There was previous speculation that the team might approach Jackson to restructure his contract which weighs $12.2 million against the cap next season. Since this is obviously not the case, Tampa Bay must believe that Jackson is worth the five-year, $55.5 million he signed back in 2012.

With the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, it’s assumed that the Buccaneers will select former Heisman winner Jameis Winston. If that’s the case, the young quarterback will have two towering figures at wide receiver. Last year’s first-round pick Mike Evans teamed up with Jackson to combine for 138 receptions, 2,053 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.
