Report: Things lining up for Joe Maddon to be Angels’ next manager

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

In what has to be considered the least shocking news around the Major League Baseball world recently, it’s looking like former Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon will soon be hired by the Los Angeles Angels.

It was reported this past weekend that Maddon was set to interview for the Angels’ managerial opening. That’s taking place on Monday.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, everything is lining up for this to be a quick hire.

Maddon spent more than three decades in the Angels’ organization as a coach and interim manager. He’s been linked to the opening since Brad Ausmus was fired following just one season in that role.

Considered one of the most-respected minds in the baseball world, Maddon is coming off a highly successful five-year stint as the Cubs manager. It’s a span that saw him post a 471-339 record while leading the organization to that elusive World Series title back in 2016.
