Report: Rockets, Ty Lawson agree to contract buyout

Ty Lawson

Ty Lawson’s short tenure with the Houston Rockets has apparently come to an end.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the two sides have reportedly come to an agreement on a contract buyout:

This ends what has been a disastrous marriage between Lawson and the Rockets after he was acquired from the Denver Nuggets during the summer.

Lawson is averaging just 5.8 points and 3.4 assists while shooting 39 percent from the field this season.

This lackluster performance comes on the heels of Houston sending a first-round pick to Denver for Lawson back in July. If Houston ends up earning a first-round pick outside of the top 14 this year, it will end up going to Denver.

That’s a mighty high price to pay for a player that averaged less than six points per game.

There are contending teams out there that might express interest in Lawson after the buyout becomes official.

The Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and Utah Jazz could all use some more depth at point guard.

We should be hearing reports of interested teams here in the not-so-distant future. Though, Lawson’s enigmatic personality might limit the pool of squads that will show interest in the guard.
