Report: Richard Sherman Likely to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Watching Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman play during the Super Bowl on Sunday gives some credence to the idea that his shoulder injury was more serious than originally anticipated.

ESPN’s John Clayton reported shortly after the game that Sherman will likely undergo Tommy John surgery in the offseason.

The source indicated that the injury was worse than just an elbow sprain. Although the source didn’t indicate the prognosis and timetable, it is likely he will go Tommy John surgery after the season.

This is a surgery that is most common in pitchers around the baseball world. Considering pitchers use their shoulders to actually throw the baseball, the normal one-year time frame for return cannot be used in Sherman’s case.

It’s unknown at this point how a potential surgery might impact Sherman’s ability to play next season, but we can pretty much guarantee that he’s going to be sidelined from offseason activities for some time.
