Report: Redskins release CB Josh Norman, saving $9.5 million

The Washington Redskins made Josh Norman the richest cornerback in the league a few years ago, but they are releasing him ahead of the 2020 season, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Per Garafolo, the move will save the Redskins $9.5 million, as Norman was due to make $12.5 million in 2020 and will count $3 million against the cap due to dead money on his deal.

It’s not surprising that Washington is letting Norman go. He was once among the league’s elite cornerbacks, but since arriving in the nation’s capital his play has not lived up to that standard.

Furthermore, in recent years it’s been noticed by many that Norman’s focus may not be completely on football.

At the age of 32, Norman will likely land on his feet with a new team in short order, but nobody should expect him to rake in a monster deal in free agency. Last season, appearing in 12 games, he tallied 40 tackles, one interception and one sack.
