Another veteran defensive back will hit the open market after the Baltimore Ravens release starting safety Tony Jefferson, which Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports is set to happen.
This news comes just hours after the Washington Redskins released starting cornerback Josh Norman, who was ecstatic about the move.
Jefferson appeared in just five games last year due to an ACL injury that ended his season. He signed a four-year, $34 million contract with Baltimore ahead of the 2017 season. The 28-year-old veteran was set to count $11.66 million against the cap, and his release frees up a good chunk of that, as his contract has just $4.17 million in dead cap money left on it heading into 2020.
No doubt, Jefferson will be a hot commodity. He’s a versatile defender who has four interceptions, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his career.
