The Texas Rangers were dealt bad news on Wednesday. Prince Fielder’s 2016 season may be over.

Any time neck injuries enter into the equation, the news in very bad. In the case of Fielder, it’s even worse. He missed nearly all of the 2014 season with a neck injury. This is reportedly in a different part of the neck.
This certainly helps explain Fielder’s recent woes. After a terrible April and May, Fielder bounced back with a solid month of June. However, he’s seen some major regression this month. Fielder has slashed at .170/.291/.255 with only one home run in July.
Whether this impacts the Rangers trade plans remains to be seen. A once large lead in the American League West has shrunk to only four games over the Houston Astros. This injury will test the already depleted depth chart of the Rangers.
