Report: Philip Rivers Trade Seems “Highly Unlikely”

San Diego Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers currently has one more year left on his contract. And while there have been some reports that Rivers is not sure of his future past this upcoming season, or that he may even be a candidate for a trade, it would appear that his immediate future with the Chargers is solid.

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, a Rivers trade seems “incredibly unlikely.” At this point, the team’s goal is to re-sign one of the NFL’s top 10 quarterbacks long-term.

Rivers’ “hesitance” at the possibility of uprooting his family of nine and moving to Los Angeles could also be seen as leverage on his side to work a better deal after the 2015 season concludes.

As far as rumored trade talks go, Rivers has been connected to the Tennessee Titans, where if traded, he would be reunited with former coach Ken Whisenhunt. Obviously, that would send the Titans’ second-overall pick to the Chargers where they could wind up selecting quarterback Marcus Mariota in the 2015 NFL Draft.

While a possible trade is only speculative at the moment, we all know strange things can come down the pike as it relates to the quarterback situation in the NFL.
