As the New Orleans Pelicans continue to struggle with relevance in the Western Conference, we’re hearing more rumors about Anthony Davis’ potential exit from the Bayou.
In no way does this mean general manager Dell Demps an Co. are not doing everything possible to appease the star big man and add more talent to the team’s roster.
According to Jordan Brenner of The Athletic, New Orleans is targeting multiple wing players to team up with the core group of Davis, Jrue Holiday and Nikola Mirotic.
Names bandied about include the likes of Kent Bazemore, J.R. Smith and Stanley Johnson, among others. Another report from earlier in the day suggested that the Pelicans are eyeing Lakers wing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who was just mentioned in trade rumors over the past week.
None of the names mentioned here would be eye-opening acquisitions. Realistically, New Orleans doesn’t have the assets to add a star. Even then, acquiring another wing would go a long way to New Orleans reaching the playoffs this season.
The team entered Wedneday’s action with a 15-16 record and as the 12th seed in an ultra competitive Western Conference.
