As the New Orleans Pelicans continue to try and pick up the pieces following Demarcus Cousins’ Achilles injury, they have reportedly signed former No. 2 overall pick Emeka Okafor to a 10-day contract.

Shams Charania of The Vertical reported this news on Saturday morning.

The 35-year-old center played last in the NBA way back in 2013 with the Washington Wizards. A herniated disc derailed his career and required “multiple years of rehabilitation,” per Charania.

Okafor signed on with the Philadelphia 76ers this past summer in training camp and played for their G League affiliate in Delaware this season. Playing in 26 games, Okafor 6.9 points, eight rebounds and 19.9 minutes per game.

The Pelicans are reportedly making this move instead of signing Terrance Jones. The Pelicans also acquired forward Nikola Mirotic in a trade with the Chicago Bulls earlier this week.
