Report: No one expects Mets to trade Jacob deGrom

As the countdown to the non-waiver trade deadline ticks under 24 hours, it’s now expected that starting pitcher Jacob deGrom will not get his wish and remain with the New York Mets.

According to Jon Heyman of Fancred sports, no team has reportedly made an offer close enough to what New York is seeking for its ace pitcher.

Given New York is operating at the trade deadline without general manager Sandy Alderson and that deGrom is under contract for multiple seasons, the news isn’t a big surprise.

However, it does further solidify that this is one of the worst markets for starting pitching in recent seasons. After J.A Happ was traded to the New York Yankees and Cole Hamels was dealt to the Chicago Cubs, the starting pitcher market has thinned out considerably.

New York will now likely focus on offers for starting pitcher Zach Wheeler, though even he is likely to stay with the Mets past the deadline.
