Tampa Bay Buccaneers free-agent quarterback James Winston has been met with a bare market. We already know Winston is leaving Tampa Bay after the team shockingly signed six-time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady.

Unfortunately for the former No. 1 overall pick, it looks like he’s going to have to settle for a backup quarterback job.

It was previously noted that Ron Rivera and the Washington Redskins would have interest in Winston for that role. This is apparently no longer the case.

Focus in the nation’s capital has been on whether the Redskins’ new brass is sold on 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins as their starter moving forward. Washington boasts the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It could potentially look to add one of the draft’s best signal callers in that of Tua Tagovailoa. Though, I would still bank on former Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young with that pick.

As it relates to Winston, the dude is coming off a 2019 season that saw him throw for over 5,000 yards while becoming the first quarterback to toss both 30-plus touchdowns and 30-plus interceptions. He’s likely going to have to take a short-term deal to be a backup at this point.

Washington will forge ahead with Haskins and potentially Alex Smith, depending his health.
