Report: ‘Multiple’ Mets were surprised team fired pitching coach Dave Eiland

Dave Eiland

The New York Mets made some big moves on Thursday, firing pitching coach Dave Eiland, and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez. Meanwhile, Mickey Callaway remains in place as the manager.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the decision to fire Eiland came as a big surprise to some within the organization.

It’s not hard to see why. Last year, the Mets featured a Cy Young winner in Jacob deGrom, and MLB’s sixth-best ERA. This season, injuries have plagued the pitching staff, and the team in general.

All in all, it sure feels Eiland was a convenient scapegoat. Apparently, at least some within the Mets organization agree.
