In what could potentially stunt the growth of dozens of young players and prospects around the baseball world, MLB is reportedly prohibiting players from participating in the Venezuelan Winter League this year.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, this is a direct response to President Donald Trump’s recent executive order that placed an embargo on the South American nation.

The embargo was placed on Venezuela in early August as the United States and other world leaders seek a regime change from the strong-armed leadership of President Nicolás Maduro.

It goes without saying that this will have wide-ranging ramifications for prospects and organizations around baseball.
