Report: Mike D’Antoni Resigns As Los Angeles Lakers’ Head Coach

Mike D'Antoni

According to a report by Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Mike D’Antoni has resigned as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Coming off their worst season since a 19-win campaign when they were in Minnesota back in 1958, the Los Angeles Lakers are now looking for a new head coach.

D’Antoni leaves after one full season as the Lakers’ coach. He was 40-32 in 2012 – 2013 after replacing Mike Brown, who was fired after just five games. The veteran head coach previously coached the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. This year represented the fifth time in D’Antoni’s career that he has missed the playoffs.

We can now start the rumors about potential coaching candidates for the Lakers. Steve Kerr has been mentioned as a possibility for both the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors. There is also a decent chance that Tom Thibodeau of the Chicago Bulls, Scott Brooks of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Frank Vogel of the Indiana Pacers become available. In addition to that, rumors persist that Golden State’s Mark Jackson will not be returning next season.

Those are just a few names to consider at this early point in the process.
