The MLB world was thrown for a loop earlier this week when it was reported that the Houston Astros are open to dealing star shortstop Carlos Correa in a cost-cutting move.
While nothing appears to be imminent on this front, Andy Martino of SNY indicates that the New York Mets have had discussions with Houston for the All-Star.
Despite losing Zack Wheeler in free agency and not doing much else aside from bringing in Michael Wacha as his replacement, the Mets are looking to be big-game hunters this winter.
Correa, 25, would certainly fall under that category. The former AL Rookie of the Year and All-Star hit .279 with 21 homers, 59 RBI and a .926 OPS during an injury-plagued 2019 campaign.
Arbitration eligible through the 2021 season, Correa might be too expensive for the Astros to keep long term.
Acquiring him would require an absolutely massive haul, something the Mets might be able to offer in terms of both young Major League talent and prospects.
