Report: Julian Edelman leaves practice with another injury

After undergoing surgery on a broken foot twice over the past year, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman returned to practice on Monday.

It was a long-awaited return for the star receiver, one that the Pats themselves desperately needed.

Unfortunately, just as quick as Edelman took to the field, he was seen leaving it in what one reporter called “disgust.”

We have absolutely no idea what the severity of the injury might be, but it sure doesn’t look good. Having the trainer check out your lower leg area after undergoing two surgeries within the past calendar year surely isn’t a good sign.

Doing so after returning from the physically unable to perform list the day prior is a major concern.

Edelman broke a bone in his foot during a mid-November game against the New York Giants. And while he was able to return in time for the playoffs, the receiver required off-season surgery on the same foot.

It goes without saying that the Patriots need the 30-year-old receiver back healthy this season. He recorded 61 receptions for 692 yards and seven scores in just nine games last year.

Overall, Edelman had put up 90-plus receptions in each of the past two seasons prior to last year’s injury-plagued campaign.

With Tom Brady suspended the first four games and not much in terms of proven talent behind Edelman at receiver, losing him for an extended period would be a huge blow to the Pats.
