Report: Jets signing CB Morris Claiborne

Morris Claiborne

The New York Jets are reportedly adding to their secondary Wednesday by landing former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne.

A first-round selection by Dallas in 2012 (No. 6 overall), it’s safe to say Claiborne never lived up to expectations during his tenure with the Cowboys.

Though he started 43 games in five seasons, he nabbed just four interceptions and defended just 26 passes. He was regularly picked on by top quarterbacks and has never developed into the top cornerback the Cowboys thought they had.

That’s not to say Claiborne isn’t still capable of contributing. He’s just not a star. The Jets needed help in a major way after a miserable 2016 season defending the pass. New York allowed 30 passing touchdowns and quarterbacks averaged a 98.5 passer rating playing against the Jets.
