New York Jets rookie starting right tackle Max Mitchell will miss several weeks after dislocating his knee in Sunday’s game, NFL Network reported Monday.
The Jets originally feared Mitchell sustained a season-ending injury. As it is, they expect him to return later this season, per the report.
The Jets selected Mitchell in the fourth round of this year’s NFL draft. He had played every snap this season before leaving Sunday’s victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second quarter. He had to be carted off and was on crutches after the game.
Mitchell, 22, played himself into a starting role after injuries to Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown landed them on injured reserve. Starting left tackle George Fant went on IR last week.
The Jets moved Alijah Vera-Tucker from right guard to play left tackle against the Steelers. Nate Herbig started at right guard. Mitchell was replaced by Conor McDermott.
