Report: Jerry Jones wants NFL lead investigator fired

By Vincent Frank

There’s a lot of breaking news on the Jerry Jones and Roger Goodell front as the NFL kicks off its second Sunday of regular season action.

Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that Jones himself was potentially holding up an extension for Goodell as the league’s commissioner.

While Jones had in the past toed the league line on matters relating to Goodell’s power, the entire Ezekiel Elliott situation is said to have angered the Cowboys owner (more on that here).

Remember, Elliott was originally suspended six games for his alleged involvement in multiple domestic violence situations. Since then, the courts have sided with the NFLPA in putting said suspension on hold.

One of the major power players behind the scenes, NFL lead investigator Lisa Friel, has found herself in the news for all the wrong reasons recently.

Another NFL investigator was reportedly silinced by Friel for recommending that Elliott not be suspended in a case that saw him cleared by the criminal court system.

Now comes this potentially explosive report indicating that Jones himself wants Friel fired.

On the surface, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

In ruling to grant the NFLPA’s motion for a temporary restraining order, technically staying the suspension,¬†Judge Amos L. Mazzant III pointed specifically to Friel’s testimony as one of the major issues.

As the single most powerful owner in the NFL, Jones definitely has some pull when it comes to matters of this ilk. If he is indeed pushing for Friel’s firing, it only adds another level to the entire Elliott legal drama.

It’s most definitely something to keep an eye on as the situation itself plays out in the courts.
