Report: Giants hoping to deal Andrew McCutchen before August 31

Veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen could soon be on the move. A recent report from ESPN’s Buster Olney stated that the San Francisco Giants are looking to deal McCutchen by August 31.

This is hardly surprising. The Giants are well out of both the NL West and wild card races. McCutchen will also be a free agent at the end of the season. So, it only makes sense that the Giants will look to get something for him, while giving him a more realistic chance to play for a contender.

McCutchen would fit in well with a number of contenders looking to upgrade their outfield situations. That list includes, but is not limited to, the Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, and Cleveland Indians.

McCutchen was acquired by the Giants in the offseason from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He’s hit .255/.353/.412 with 14 home runs on the season.
