Report: Eagles plan to start Nick Foles in season opener on Thursday

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

When the Philadelphia Eagles kick off the NFL season against the Atlanta Falcons, Nick Foles will reportedly start at quarterback.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Wentz will likely be held out of the opener as Philadelphia focuses on the long-term health of its star quarterback.

As a result, the man who helped lead the Eagles on an incredible postseason run and brought home a title to the city will be at quarterback.

Foles has struggled this preseason but has clearly demonstrated he can step up in big moments and help push Philadelphia’s offense forward. The Eagles kept him around this offseason, rather than trade him, for moments exactly like this.

It’s still not known just how long Wentz will be out, but the Eagles should feel comfortable with Foles under center to start the season.
