Report: Dolphins Could Fire Joe Philbin

A report by Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald suggests that the Miami Dolphins may fire head coach Joe Philbin if the team fails to make the playoffs.

Following the team’s blowout loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, Miami is now eliminated from contention in the AFC East and two games out of the final wild card spot with two games left in the year.

A season that started with high expectations for the Dolphins has seemingly come to a head in the past couple weeks, which could very well seal Philbin’s fate as the team’s head coach.

Salguero cites a source that indicates owner Stephen Ross will potentially look to kick the tires on San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who interviewed with the team back in 2011.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the final two games play out for the Dolphins. If they close the season on a low note, there is no reason to believe Philbin will be back. Heck, at that point, he wouldn’t deserve to remain the team’s head coach.
