Report: Dennis Allen Fired by the Oakland Raiders

According to Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer, the Oakland Raiders have fired head coach Dennis Allen.

This comes on the heels of a report Sunday evening by Terry Collins of the Associated Press indicating that Allen would be removed from his job as early as Tuesday.

Prior to Glazer’s report, there was some ambiguity about whether Allen could be fired prior to the Raiders landing in the United States from their game against the Miami Dolphins in London.

It appears that the move has now been made, as Glazer confirmed his report with another update.

Oakland is heading into its bye week, so this was the time for owner Mark Davis and Co. to make a move.

Despite not possessing the necessary talent to compete on a consistent basis, the Raiders simply haven’t shown any real progression under Allen.

If true, this would mark the end of a tenure that has seen Allen 8-28 in two-plus seasons as the Raiders coach. The team simply hasn’t been competitive for the vast majority of Allen’s tenue and have lost 10 consecutive games dating back to Week 12 of the 2013 season.

At this point, it’s likely that assistant head coach Tony Sparano will take over on an interim basis.
