The NFL is usually one to take its time with handing down suspensions and levying fines. That might very well change as it relates to Deflategate and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
According to a report by the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe, a person close to the situation thinks a ruling could be made by Friday afternoon.
This wouldn’t be all-too surprising considering the NFL does like to save these things for the Friday afternoon news dump. Though, as Pro Football Talk points out, it would be more the NFL’s modus operandi to wait until Memorial Day weekend later this month. That would allow the news to fly under the radar as much as possible.
The simple fact that information is being leaked regarding the timing of potential punishments has to be an indication that punishment itself is likely here.
At this point, it’s more likely than not that Brady will be the individual facing the stiffest penalty, but we can’t rule out the NFL going hard after the Patriots organization as well as head coach Bill Belichick.
