Report: Dave Roberts could move on to the Giants after next season

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts

Former Los Angeles Dodgers general manager, Farhan Zaidi, is now the President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants. It’s possible that following the 2019 season, he could have a reunion with current Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts.

Roberts is entering the final year of his deal in Los Angeles. While it had been previously reported that he was nearing an extension, none has been reached.

With San Francisco skipper, Bruce Bochy, entering the final year of his deal, Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports is noting that Roberts could join the Giants after 2019.

“Roberts was aiming to use A.J. Hinch’s reported $12-million, four-year deal as a comp,” Heyman wrote. “If he were to become a free agent, with Bochy having a year to go on his Giants deal, and Zaidi now in charge in San Francisco, he could become a candidate to move to the rival.”

Heyman cited an insider, who said that Roberts, who will make $1.1 million in 2019, is “the most underpaid manager in the game.”

Roberts has ties in San Francisco beyond just Zaidi, as well. He finished his playing career with the Giants, playing with them in 2007 and 2008.

Roberts had managed the Dodgers for three years. He has a 287-200 record, has won the NL West and qualified for the NLCS in each season, and won an NL pennant in both 2017 and 2018.
