Report: Colts sign former Eagles star TE Trey Burton

The Indianapolis Colts have added another playmaker for recently-signed quarterback Philip Rivers.

According to his agency, veteran tight end Trey Burton has signed with the Colts just a short while after he was released by the Chicago Bears.

Burton, 28, spent just two seasons with the Bears after they signed him away from the Philadelphia Eagles. He caught all of 14 passes for 84 yards in eight games with Chicago last season.

Considered one of the top free-agent tight ends back in 2018, Burton starred with then-Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich in 2016 and 2017. That included an improbable Super Bowl run in their final season together.

Burton’s best performance came with the Bears back in 2018. He recorded 54 receptions for 569 yards that season.
