It could very well be the first of many shoes to drop. The NCAA earlier on Thursday released a statement from President Mark Emmert placing into question whether the 2020 college football season will even be played.
This came after both the Big Ten and Pac-12 decided to cancel all non-conference games for the 2020 season. Another conference is now on the verge of canceling the 2020 college football season altogether.
CAA set to announce that it will cancel 2020 college football season
This isn’t necessarily a huge conference by any stretch of the imagination. But it does paint a bleak picture as it relates to the 2020 college football season.
The obvious issue here is the ongoing pandemic plaguing the United States. Other conferences might very well follow suit.
What to expect when it comes to the 2020 college football season?
Given that major conferences are in the process of canceling non-conference games, it stands to reason that the start of the season will, at the very least, be delayed until October. The early portion of the schedule tends to be loaded with non-conference games.
Though, there’s a darn good chance that the season could very well be pushed back until spring of 2021. The rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the United States magnifies this even further.
As for the CAA, that’s 12 teams who will not be playing college football in 2020. This includes the likes of James Madison, Villanova, New Hampshire, Delaware and Rhode Island.
