It’s possible that the Philadelphia Eagles will have to play only one more game with the struggling Nick Foles under center.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen noted Sunday morning that it would not be a surprise if Carson Wentz was ready to go Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts.
“There is much more optimism that prevails than pessimism,” the NFL insider said (h/t Philly Voice). “He hasn’t been ruled out for Week 2, (but) he hasn’t been cleared. I think that the organizational sources I’ve spoken with say they wouldn’t be surprised if he’s ready for Week 3.”
Recovering from a torn ACL he suffered late last season, Wentz has yet to be cleared for physical contact. That could come relatively soon. If so, a previous report suggesting that he might be out several weeks might have been overblown.
Foles struggled big time in Wentz’s stead Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons, completing 19-of-34 passes for just 117 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception in the 18-12 win.
Needless to say, getting Wentz back in the mix would be a boon for the defending champs.
