Report: Brewers trade All-Star 1B Jesus Aguilar to the Rays

Despite being in the midst of a playoff race, the Milwaukee Brewers are moving one of their All-Star position players.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Milwaukee has traded first baseman Jesus Aguilar to the Tampa Bay Rays.

This could in fact be a case of addition by subtraction for Milwaukee.

Aguilar, 29, is hitting just .225 with eight homers, 34 RBI and a .320 OBP this season. He earned an All-Star appearance in 2018 while hitting 35 homers and driving in 108 runs.

In return, Milwaukee will get 26-year-old pitcher Jake Faria. Previously a starter, he’s appeared in seven games in relief for the Rays this season. Faria is pitching to a 2.70 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. He started a combined 26 games for the Rays in 2017 and 2018.

Milwaukee had been in the market for more pitching help. Whether it’s in the back end of the rotation or the bullpen, Faria should provide that.
