The defending NL East champion Atlanta Braves are already making waves during the early stages of the MLB offseason.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, Atlanta has signed All-Star closer Will Smith to a three-year contract worth $39 million. It includes a $13 million team option for 2023.

Smith, 30, was absolutely lights out for the Giants last season. He pitched to a 2.76 ERA and 1.03 WHIP while saving 34 games and striking out 96 batters in 65.1 innings.

This was an area that the Braves needed to address during the winter. They made multiple moves to secure the late innings last season, but it never really worked out.

Atlanta now adds the best closer on the market at a reasonable rate.
