Report: 49ers’ WR Marquise Goodwin being discussed in trade talks

Marquise Goodwin, 49ers

There is no shortage of talent at wide receiver available in the NFL offseason and now San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin could join the list of players available.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers are open to moving Goodwin and 29-year-old speedster is being discussed in trade talks.

The 49ers are relatively tight for cap space with just $13.1 million available before NFL free agency opens. The front office could clear $3 million in cap space by trading Goodwin and could also benefit from picking up an additional draft pick. In the most recent mock draft, the 49ers added another top receiver and that could help push Goodwin out the door.

Goodwin racked up just 581 receiving yards combined over the past two seasons, but he is still capable of making big plays. He set a career-high in receiving yards (962) in 2017 and has averaged 16.6 yards per catch during his career.

There will certainly be a few NFL teams looking to add a vertical threat to their passing attack, a role that Goodwin is perfect for. He is owed $10 million over the next two seasons, so any team that acquired him wouldn’t be taking on a significant cap hit.
