Something seemed to be off when new Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Wade Miley took to the bump against the division-rival Chicago Cubs earlier this week. The veteran yielded six runs (five earned) in just 1.2 innings of work.

We now know something was indeed off.

Reds place Wade Miley on injured list

According to this report, Miley is dealing with a groin strain that could sideline him for some time.

With the expectation of contending in the NL Central in 2020, Cincinnati general manager Nick Krall sought to upgrade the team’s rotation.

That included signing Miley to a two-year, $15 million contract during the winter. The veteran was coming off a 2019 campaign with the Houston Astros that saw him pitch to a 14-6 record with a solid 3.98 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 33 starts.

In Miley’s stead, Anthony DeSclafani will now be in the Reds’ rotation. He posted a 9-9 record with a 3.99 ERA in 31 starts for Cincinnati last season.

The Reds head into Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs sporting a 2-4 record.
