Reds emerging as favorite to sign Nicholas Castellanos, per report

The Cincinnati Reds are reportedly emerging as favorites to sign outfielder Nicholas Castellanos, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi reports.

According to the report, the Reds have become the frontrunner in recent days with negotiations to sign the star outfielder. While Cincinnati is the leader to sign him, the San Francisco Giants are also reportedly negotiating with Castellanos.

Castellanos hit 16 home runs with a 1.002 OPS in the second half of is 2019 season after being traded to the Chicago Cubs.

Cincinnati solidified its lineup for the 2020 season by signing All-Star infielder Mike Moustakas and Japanese outfielder Shogo Akiyama.

If the Reds can reach an agreement with Castellanos, he would likely take over as the team’s right fielder. Already a team on the rise in power rankings, Cincinnati would be in an even better position to contend with Castellanos in the lineup.
