Red Sox fans already booing defending champs

Boston Red Sox fans have not been accustomed to their team losing a lot in recent seasons. Fresh off another World Series title, that’s been the case during the early stages of the 2019 season.

Boston entered Thursday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park with the second-worst record in the American League at 3-9.

Of Boston’s five regular starting pitchers, not a single one boasts an ERA of under 6.00. Ace Chris Sale has been downright horrible — leading to speculation about a possible injury.

The early stages of Thursday’s game against Toronto also didn’t go too swimmingly. Tied up at zero in the top of the third, Nathan Eovaldi served up a three-run homer to Justin Smoak.

Later in the same frame, Rowdy Tellez got a hold of an Nathan Eovaldi fast ball and drove it over the right field fence for a tremendous blast.

It’s now rather clear that the usually reserved BoSox fans are not terrible happy with the performance of their home team. That was magnified early in the game when boos came pouring in from the bleachers.

There’s certainly good reason for this angst in Boston. When the team’s home season opened up earlier in the week, most expected a changing of the tide.

That obviously has not been the case.

The Fenway faithful sent boo birds in Sale’s direction earlier this week. That means no one is immune from their wrath. Stay tuned.
