Auston Matthews scored his first goal in six games at 54 seconds of overtime and the Toronto Maple Leafs came back to defeat the visiting Edmonton Oilers 4-3 Saturday night.

Toronto scored twice in the third period to tie the game.

Matthews won the game with a shot from the left circle that was deflected twice before going into the net for his 22nd goal of the season.

William Nylander had a goal and an assist for Toronto Pierre Engvall and John Tavares each scored a goal. Alex Galchenyuk added two assists.

Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists for the Oilers. Tyson Barrie added a goal and an assist and Darnell Nurse scored a goal. Connor McDavid contributed two assists.

Edmonton goaltender Mike Smith stopped 27 shots and Toronto’s Jack Campbell stopped 17 shots.

Engvall gave Toronto a 1-0 lead at 4:14 of the second period on a fluttering deflection for his third goal this season.

It was first ruled that it was directed in by his glove but a video review determined that it was a goal.

Nurse scored at 6:47 of the second on a quick shot from the left circle that was set up by McDavid’s pass. It was the defenseman’s 11th goal of the season.

Draisaitl gave Edmonton the lead at 14:05 of the second with his 19th goal of the season on a shot from the right circle. McDavid set up the goal after taking control of the puck in the neutral zone.

Barrie knocked in his fifth goal this season from the edge of the crease at 18:05 of the second. Draisaitl set it up with a no-look, backhand pass from behind the net.

Toronto had two good chances during a power play early in the third period. Smith stopped a Matthews shot and Tavares hit the crossbar from close in.

Tavares scored his 10th goal of the season from the slot at 12:21 of the third period. Nylander scored his 13th at 16:38 to tie the game after pouncing on a loose puck in the slot.
